E-Commerce Accountants for Amazon, Shopify & eBay Sellers
E-commerce accounting without the headache. Specialist support for Amazon, Shopify, eBay, Etsy and TikTok Shop sellers, from a small Worcestershire practice that knows your business.
Selling Online Is Complicated Enough. Your Accounting Shouldn’t Be.
Online selling brings accounting problems that a general approach was never built for.
Marketplaces pay you in settlements that bundle together dozens of orders, then take out fees, refunds, advertising and shipping before anything reaches your bank. You may be selling in several currencies, holding stock in a warehouse you never see, collecting VAT on some sales while the marketplace collects it on others, and running it all through two or three different platforms.
We untangle all of it. Every payout is reconciled back to its orders, costs are recorded where they belong, stock is valued properly and VAT is worked out correctly, so your accounts show what your business actually earns. You still get the same personal service our accountancy clients rely on.

A marketplace does not pay you your sales. It pays you what is left once its fees, your advertising, postage and refunds have been taken out, often in one lump covering dozens of orders.
Pick a platform and a month’s sales to see how quickly the two figures drift apart. Every line in between needs recording properly for your profit and VAT to be right.
Illustrative example only. Real fees vary by platform, category, plan and how you fulfil orders.
Amazon payout
Example month| Sales on Amazon | £10,000 |

| FBA fulfilment fees | -£1,200 |
| Advertising | -£800 |

| Storage charges | -£100 |
| What lands in your bank | £5,900 |
£4,100 sits between your sales report and your bank statement. We make sure every pound of it is recorded in the right place.

E-Commerce Accounting Questions
Straight answers to the questions online sellers ask us most.
Do I really need an e-commerce accountant?
Not every online seller does, but most outgrow a general approach quickly. Marketplaces pay you in batches with fees, refunds, advertising and sometimes VAT already deducted, so the money in your bank rarely matches your sales. An accountant who understands those settlements can record them properly, which means accurate profit, correct VAT and fewer surprises at year end.
I only sell on Amazon - do I need specialist accounting?
Selling on one platform keeps things simpler, but Amazon settlements are still complex. A single payout can include sales, refunds, referral and FBA fees, storage charges, advertising costs and reimbursements. Recording only the net payout understates both your sales and your costs, which can affect your VAT position and makes it hard to see what you really earn.
Why don’t my Shopify sales match my bank?
Because what reaches your bank is not your sales figure. Shopify Payments and other payment providers deduct transaction fees and refunds before paying out, payouts often cover several days of orders, and some sales arrive through PayPal or other gateways separately. Reconciling each payout back to its orders, fees and refunds is how the two are made to agree.
How do Amazon payouts work in the accounts?
Each Amazon settlement should be broken down rather than recorded as one figure. Gross sales go in as income, while referral fees, fulfilment fees, storage, advertising and refunds are recorded as separate costs or adjustments. Tools such as A2X do this automatically by summarising each settlement into clear accounting entries that are posted to your bookkeeping software.
When do I need to register for VAT?
You must register if your VAT-taxable turnover over the last 12 months goes over the registration threshold, currently £90,000, or if you expect it to go over in the next 30 days alone. Overseas sellers storing goods in the UK may need to register from their first sale. Online sellers should also check how marketplace-collected VAT and sales to overseas customers affect them.
How do Amazon, A2X and Sage work together?
Amazon produces the settlement data, A2X reads each settlement and turns it into a summarised journal with sales, fees and refunds split out correctly, and that journal is posted into Sage. The result is that your Sage records match each Amazon payout exactly, without hundreds of individual transactions to enter by hand. As an A2X certified practice we can set this up and keep it running.
